GENIUS – Inventors Who Changed the World

This lovely book was published by Carlton Books, in association with the Science Museum (I used to work there, and I wrote their souvenir guide in 2013). The book’s innovative design features flaps and removable parts that make the experience of reading it more engaging. For example, in the entry about the invention of photography, I found a letter written by the inventor, Joseph Nicéphore Niépce, to his brother, explaining his work. (The 2015 edition of this book did not have these inserts.)

This edition of the book even came in a box!

From the publisher:

“The light bulb. Antiseptic surgery. The World Wide Web. These inventions changed the world and introduced us to the masterminds of their time. “Genius,” published in association with the Science Museum of London, gives readers unprecedented insight into the minds and lives of those who shaped the way we live today. This beautifully illustrated volume captures the excitement of the most important moments in the history of technology. Dozens of pull-out memorabilia include excerpted copies of notebooks, blueprints, patent applications, and diaries, and timelines explain the development of each invention.”
